Access & safety

Public access

Brookland-CUA Metro station has an elevated platform overlooking the CSX Capital Sub mainline. The platform is fully public (no fare required to walk through the mezzanine, although the platform itself is in paid area). The Metropolitan Branch Trail runs alongside the tracks and is the better non-paid vantage.

Safety notes

Metropolitan Branch Trail is the recommended vantage. Trail is fully public but residential / commuter cyclists share it — yield. Do not climb the CSX ROW fence.

Parking

No Metro parking lot at this station. Street parking in Brookland (residential, often permit). The Metropolitan Branch Trail has bike racks at several access points.

Best time of day

Mid-morning to early afternoon for southbound freight visibility against the platform.

Train frequency

WMATA Red Line every 4-12 minutes. CSX Capital Sub freight 15-30 trains/day; Capitol Limited passes here once each direction daily.

Nearby

Brookland neighborhood has restaurants, cafes, the Franciscan Monastery. Catholic University adjacent.
